Ivan and I visited Lyon for a few days and it was absolutely amazing! We’re now big fans of this place. One of the things we loved about Lyon is the fact that it is the gastronomy capital of the world. Of course, we ate and drank far too much! But it was worth it. The Rhone and Saone rivers flow through the city, which means we’ll probably come back here in our canal boat.

Architecture of Lyon
We loved the Lyon architecture with cobblestone streets and interesting little alleyways all over the place.
Lyon is famous for its covered walkways in the old section of the city, which are known as Traboules. Traboules were used to transport goods safely out of the weather and date back to the Renaissance period. Whilst there are more than 500 Traboules in Lyon, finding them is a challenge as they are well hidden. With the help of Google we found one!

The views of Lyon
Lyon is huge and very hilly. We loved the views.
The food was amazing!!
The food is ridiculously good. We had a delicious meal in this little restaurant (pictured below) in the old quarter inside a building that dates back to the 1500s. Check out the beautiful chandelier! And the cute little well behaved dog under the table behind me. That’s something we absolutely love about France – the fact that dogs are welcome just about everywhere.
The Cathedrale St Jean Baptiste
This is the the Cathedrale Saint Jean Baptiste which is located right on top of a hill overlooking the city. The view from the hill is spectacular. We got there via a funicular which is a sort of small train that just goes up and down the hill.
Mur des Canuts in Lyon
The Mur des Canuts is a mural painted over a blank wall. The wall used to be an eyesore but is now a tourist attraction. The original artwork has been updated and the people in the mural have aged over time. It’s beautifully done.
Lyon is one of my favourite cities . The markets are amazing with every possible type of food for sale
Bellecour is my favourite part of the city
