We arrived in Paris on the 1st June and spent a few days wandering around. We were pretty knackered after our flight so we stopped for a beer. There looked to be smoke coming from one of the buildings nearby and it escalated quickly!
Wandering around Paris
Paris is a great city to explore on foot and the metro system is excellent and easy to understand. So Ivan and I spent the 3 days we had in Paris wandering around. We’d already visited Paris a couple of times previously and therefore we didn’t need to do all the touristy things but we did go and have a look at Les Invalides (below). It has an amazing collection of war memorabilia including a whole section on the French Resistance from WWII. Napoleon’s tomb is inside.
You don’t need to go far in Paris to see famous sites, such as the Eiffel Tower.
The food!
And the food is just too good! Everywhere we ate in little brasseries, coffee shops and restaurants the food was magnificent. Sadly, I’m not going to be able to keep eating and drinking at the same pace I have been, otherwise I won’t fit on the plane back home. Moderation is the key, but that’s not really a word I know very well. Let’s see how I go.
Notre Dame
Notre Dame is under construction after the fire from a few years ago. The second photo is a view from the rear.
We loved Paris – what’s not to love? The food, the wine, the history, the architecture and the people are all so wonderful. But for us, this was a stopping off point as we were itching to get to St-Jean-de-Losne to see our new canal boat.
