Laura is our canal boat that we have chosen for our break from work in France. She’s an ex-charter boat built in 1998 for Le Boat, one of France’s largest charter boat companies. 8 years ago we hired a canal cruiser from Le Boat and loved it. We also loved our experience with Le Boat so we felt comfortable buying from them.
We bought Laura sight unseen from Australia. It was a little scary doing it this way but we hired an independent surveyor who deemed it worthy of the investment. We’d been looking at boats for many years and knew what we wanted. So when Laura was listed on the Le Boat website we jumped at it. Now we have our home on the water and we’re very excited about what’s next.
Once we arrived in France we took the boat for a spin with Romuald LeBlanc, the sales person from Le Boat. Romuald was great to deal with. He’s been working at Le Boat for over 10 years and has lived on his own canal boat for many years. So he knows what he’s talking about. He helped us with all sorts of things, like registration, insurance and many technical things that could be difficult to manage in a foreign country with a different language. With Romuald’s help, it wasn’t at all hard to buy the boat, even from the other side of the world. If you are looking to buy a French canal boat then we highly recommend Le Boat.
So we’re very happy with Laura the boat. She is perfect for the two of us with occasional visitors. She’s our apartment on the water that will take us through the rivers, canals and locks of France for the next year or so.
